About this role

As a GIS Specialist I within the Geospatial Team, you will support project delivery through the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data skills. You will use the Esri technology stack—mobile, desktop, and web—alongside ETL tools such as FME to collect, manage, and process geospatial data.

Day-to-day, you will extract and provide GIS data from internal and external repositories, perform high-accuracy data entry and digitizing, and prepare standard map templates for internal project reviews. You will assist in routine data cleaning, attribute updates, and coordinate system transformations to support efficient project delivery.

You will collaborate closely with GIS Leads, Project Managers, and technical specialists, building strong working relationships and growing your confidence in applying geospatial solutions. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement based out of offices in Pretoria, Durban, or Cape Town, combining in-office and remote work capabilities.

You will gain hands-on experience with geospatial workflows and industry best practices while contributing to high-quality project outputs. The role includes participation in technical communities and ongoing training to build proficiency in the enterprise GIS stack.

Requirements

BA/BS degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field.
Minimum of 1 year of experience with a qualifying BA/BS degree.
Basic understanding of spatial data structures, cartography, and the ArcGIS Pro interface.
Proficiency in English (verbal and written) with emphasis on technical GIS communication.
Experience with the Esri technology stack: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online.
Basic Excel/tabular data management skills.
Experience supporting UK-based environmental programs (e.g., linear infrastructure, offshore/onshore wind, solar, carbon capture & storage, master planning, permitting & Environmental Impact Assessments) is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Extract and provide GIS data from internal and external repositories to support project teams.
Perform high-accuracy data entry and digitizing, incorporating geographical features with tabular information.
Prepare standard map templates and basic data visualizations for internal project reviews.
Assist in routine data cleaning, attribute updates, and coordinate system transformations.
Apply established practices and procedures to ensure all work meets the company’s Technical Quality Review (TQR) standards.
Participate in technical communities and training to build proficiency in the enterprise GIS stack.
